The guide
Spots
Spots is the page the sidebar's The guide row opens. It lists the guide's spots, the places worth the trip, and each spot opens in the spot form, where you edit its photos, texts, location and properties with a live preview beside them. Where a spot is and how to get there has its own page, Location and facts.
Spots come into the guide through Add spots: by name, with Search by name, or from a list, a file, your AI agent or your Instagram, with the imports on Import spots. There is no blank spot form: once a spot is in the guide, you open it to add its photos and texts.
The studio never saves a spot on its own: the form saves when you press its button in the guide bar at the foot of the page. See Saving.
The Spots list
The line above the list counts the guide's spots, like 1 spot or 24 spots, archived ones left out. About the spot count, the (i) beside it, says what counts: pins with a See & do category, and pins without a category yet. The car parks, lifts, places to eat and stays are helpers, on a page of their own, and never count. Your sales page shows this number.
Each row shows the spot's photos, its title and its categories (the first one in blue: it is the spot's icon on the map), markers for what it still misses and, on a wide screen, when it was last edited: Edited just now, then like Edited 3 h ago and, after a day, Edited 28 Sep. The photos sit together at the left of the row as a small pile: the cover on top and, on a wide screen, up to three of the spot's other photos lying under it, slightly turned, in their order. When the spot has more photos than that, the cover shows how many more, like +3. On a wide screen, a row also shows what is linked to the spot, one small icon per group with its count: Parking, Get around, Eat & drink, Sleep (see Linked). Click a row to open the spot. The All chip counts the guide's spots; archived spots are counted under Archived.
The list shows spots in the order you added them, the oldest first. It has no order of its own to change: the order buyers read spots in comes from the chapters on Collections.
Add spots, the blue button beside the page title, opens the dialog of the same name with every way in as a card. It shows once the guide has a spot. A guide without spots shows Add your first spots instead, with the same cards right on the page. Every card opens a screen of its own in Spots, the same from the page and from the dialog. See Add spots.
If a spot is deleted while its form is open, in another browser tab or by an AI agent, the form closes and the list shows again.
Add spots
One dialog for every way a spot comes in, its cards alone (screen readers call them Add spots from). A card closes the dialog and opens its screen in Spots, headed like All spots / Google Maps list: All spots goes back to the list, except while spots are being added. The small tiles on each card show where its spots come from; point at one for its name.
| Card | What it does |
|---|---|
| Search by name | Places with their pins, details later: on a screen of its own with the guide's map, type a place, pick it, then the next, and add them all with their names and pins. Its tile is a magnifying glass, Search. See Search by name. |
| Google Maps list | Every place of a list you shared from Google Maps, with its pin. |
| CSV file | All your spots in a spreadsheet: download, edit, upload. |
| KML file | The pins of a map from Google Earth or My Maps. |
| Photos from your own posts, put into spots. It shows only where the Instagram import is on for your account. | |
| Sceniq MCP | The prompt for your AI agent, which adds the spots for you. |
The imports are explained on Import spots. Each screen goes from its form to its preview and its result; Done at the end goes back to the list. New spots then wait in the list, where No photos and Not ready find the ones to finish.
Search and filters
Search spots finds spots by title and by the names of their categories. Case, accents and punctuation do not matter.
The chips beside it filter the list, each with its count (screen readers call the group Show spots). A chip with no spots in it hides, except All and the one you picked.
| Filter | Shows |
|---|---|
| All | Every spot that is not archived. |
| Just added | The spots the last Search by name added or updated, picked for you when it ends, with a line saying how many. It shows only after such an add, and goes when you reload the page or leave the guide. |
| Not ready | Spots that still miss something: a category, a photo, the pin, or a value for a property marked required (while the spot shows its properties). |
| No photos | Spots without a photo while their photos are shown to buyers. |
| No pin | Spots without a pin. |
| Archived | Archived spots, and only those: they show under no other filter. |
Search and filter work together; No spots match. means nothing fits both. The Publish dialog opens this list on a filter for you: Set pins on No pin, Add photos on No photos.
What the markers mean
| Marker | Meaning |
|---|---|
| No pin | The spot has no pin. In amber: it stops the guide from being published. |
| No photos | The spot shows photos but has none. In amber: it stops the guide from being published. |
| No category | The spot has no category yet, so it shows no category line and the map shows it as a plain dot. In grey: it does not stop a publish. Open the spot and pick one under Categories. |
| Effort missing | A property marked required has no value on this spot. The marker names it, here a property called Effort. |
| 2 to fill in | Several required properties have no value. |
| Archived | The spot is archived. It carries no other marker. |
A spot without markers is ready and never stops a publish. A missing category and required properties count for Not ready, but only a missing pin or photo stops a publish. A spot whose photos are off (Show photos, under Visibility) needs no photo. On a narrow screen the markers are hidden; the filters still work.
Work on your spots with your AI agent
A card above the list offers an AI agent for this work: Claude, Codex or Cursor add spots and fill in descriptions and properties over the Sceniq MCP. When spots lack text, the card says how many still miss a short description or a property value. Own pages do not count, and this count never makes a spot not ready.
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Connect your agent | Opens the agent setup in a dialog, on Complete my spots when spots still miss text, else on Add new spots. The setup is explained on AI agents and API keys. |
| Hide | The X. Hides the card in this browser. The AI agent card switch in Settings brings it back, and connecting an agent stays possible there too. |
The spot form
A click on a row opens that spot. There is no empty form for a new spot: spots come in through Add spots, then you open each one here. The form has four boxes, the fields every spot has, what is Linked to the spot, the guide's Custom Properties and the spot's Links, with Advanced options under them. A helper opens in a short shape of the same form. Fields with a blue asterisk are required. The phone beside the form shows the spot as you edit it: see Live preview.
At the top of a saved spot, two notices can wait for you: Note for your review, a note an AI agent left, and Facts due for a new check, when facts an agent set are due to be checked again. Both are explained in Review notes and dates.
The header
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| All spots | Back to the list. A spot opened from a filter names that filter here instead, like Just added or No photos, and goes back to the list as you left it. |
| The title | The spot's title as you type it. An archived spot carries the Archived marker here. |
| Previous spot, Next spot | Step through the list as it was when you opened the spot, search and filter included. The position shows beside them on a wide screen, like 3 / 12. |
Each of them leaves the form, so with unsaved changes it asks first: see Unsaved changes.
Photos
The spot's photos as tiles, in the order buyers see them. The first one is the cover, marked Cover: it is the spot's image in the list, on its card and at the top of its page. Photos are required while buyers see them.
- Drop photos, the dashed tile, takes a click to choose files. You can also drop photos anywhere on the row.
- Find photos, the dashed tile beside it, searches Unsplash and Wikimedia Commons for photos of the place, starting with the spot's title, and shows your Instagram photos where the Instagram import is available to you. Chosen photos join the row; Unsplash and Commons photos keep their photographer's credit. See Find photos.
- Point at a tile for Move photo earlier, Move photo later and Remove photo. Moving a photo to the front makes it the cover.
Photos do not wait for the form's save: a photo uploads as soon as you add it, and a move applies right away. Remove photo asks Delete this photo? first. Delete photo deletes the photo from the whole guide, so it also leaves Media, and it cannot be undone; on a live guide, buyers stop seeing it with your next publish. Keep photo keeps it. A spot's photos never show on a sales page.
A photo that fails to upload is named under the row with the reason. A HEIC photo only uploads in Safari: in other browsers the line asks you to convert it to JPG and upload it again.
Captions and credits are edited on Media, which lists every photo of the guide. Its credit fields show while the guide's Show credits is on, or while this spot's Credits is set to Show; the phone beside the form follows them. Whether buyers see the credits and descriptions of this spot's photos, and the photos' shape, are set in the spot's Media section under Advanced options: see Media. The rules for photos are on Photos and credits.
With Show photos off, a line under the photos says they are hidden from buyers.
Title and Categories
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Title | The spot's name, on its page and its card, and in the list. Required: the form does not save without it. A Google Maps link pasted into Location fills it in while it is empty. |
| Categories | What the spot is: a lake, a viewpoint, a mountain hut. Required: the form does not save without one. Buyers see the names over the title in small capitals, like LAKE · PHOTO SPOT, on the spot page, its card, the map's card and in lists, and the first one is the spot's icon on the map. Up to six. |
A category from See & do makes the pin a spot. A pin whose categories are all Parking, Get around, Eat & drink or Sleep is a helper: save it so, and it moves to Helpers, with the helper's short form. The (i) beside the field says so.
The picked categories sit in the field as chips, in their order. The first is blue with a pin, The pin icon on the map. Click another chip to make it the first (Put first); the x on a chip removes it. Add opens the picker, Categories: every category in five groups, See & do, Eat & drink, Sleep, Get around and Parking, three to a row. Click one to pick it and again to drop it; a picked one shows its place in the order. Once six are picked, the rest wait until you drop one. Done closes the picker; the categories save with the form.
Pick what the place is, not what is near it: a lake with a restaurant on its shore is a Lake, and a restaurant with a famous view can be a Viewpoint and a Restaurant. Buyers can search for spots by the names of their categories.
Spots made before categories have none until you pick them; the list marks them No category. Their old kicker, the free line that stood above the title, is still stored but no longer shown, and a kicker that named a category, like Waterfalls or A hidden lake, became that category. Spots added with Search by name take their category from the map data when it names one, like Lake or Peak (a Summit).
Short description and Long description
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Short description | One or two sentences under the title, on the spot page and on reader cards. Optional; the AI agent card counts the spots without one. |
| Long description | The text of the spot page. A blank line starts a new paragraph. The Long description button under the short description opens the field; a spot that has one opens with it, as tall as the text. |
Location
Where the spot is: its pin. Paste a Google Maps link (in Google Maps, tap Share on a place) or coordinates like 46.9358, 8.5469, and the field shows the pin as coordinates; a Google Maps link brings the place's name too. Pick on map, inside the field, sets the pin on a map. A spot without a pin is not ready and stops a publish. The whole field is explained on Location and facts.
Linked
The second box links the helpers this spot needs, one row per group: Parking, Get around, Eat & drink and Sleep. About Linked, the (i) on the box, says what it is for. A row reads None yet, or shows the linked pins as pills, nearest first, each with its distance from this spot in a straight line. Click a pill to open that pin; its x unlinks it at once.
Link on a row opens the picker for that group, titled like "Parking for Seealpsee", "Transport to Seealpsee", "Eat & drink near Seealpsee" or "Stays near Seealpsee", and sorted Nearest first. It lists every pin of the guide with a category in that group, spots included: Äscher, a viewpoint with a restaurant, is in Eat & drink. Tick a pin to link it, untick to unlink; each tick applies at once, without the form's save. A guide without such pins yet says so, like "No parking in this guide yet."
The button at the foot of the picker, New parking, New transport, New place to eat or New stay, finds a new one on the map. It lists places of that kind near this spot, or the Results for a name you type, and Add makes the helper with its pin and category, links it to this spot and brings you back to the list with the new row tinted. A name the map does not know adds by its name alone (Set its pin in the form). Back returns to the list; Done closes the picker.
Links show on both pins: the car park you link here lists this spot under its For which spots. See Helpers.
Custom Properties
The third box holds the guide's own properties as fields, two to a row: the facts first, then the own pages. They are defined on Properties. Edit properties, at the top of the box, opens that page, and the form keeps your unsaved changes meanwhile. Until the guide has properties, the box says so and links there.
A property marked required carries the blue asterisk. The spot does not save while one is empty: the save fails and names the property. A spot added before a property became required, or imported without the value (see Import spots), shows the gap in the list, and its next save needs the value.
With Show properties off, the box says the properties are hidden from buyers for this spot instead of showing the fields. Required properties do not apply then: the spot saves without their values, and a missing one does not make it Not ready. Switch Show properties back on and its next save needs them again.
Links
The fourth box holds the spot's links: the official site, a timetable, tickets, a booking page, a blog post. Paste a link into Paste a link and it names itself; click a name to change it. Buyers find them on the spot page, under Links. See Links.
Advanced options
A quiet row under the boxes opens the parts most spots never need, in four folds. Closed, the row lists what is set, like "Hike, 1,820 m, By car, 1 route, portrait photos, photos hidden". Each fold shows a one-line summary of its own.
| Fold | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Getting there | Access, altitude, crowds, the ways to arrive and the routes that lead there. It reads Approach and routes while nothing is set. See Getting there. |
| Media | How this spot's photos show: whether their credits and descriptions show, and their shape. It reads Follows the guide until you set one. See Media. |
| Visibility | What buyers see of the spot. It reads Photos and properties shown until you switch one off. |
| Archive or delete | Takes the spot out of the guide. |
Media
Three settings for this spot's photos. Each one overrides the default the guide sets in Media: leave it on Default and the spot follows the guide, so a change there reaches this spot too. A setting you pick here stays with this spot. The fold's line reads what you set, like "Credits hidden, portrait photos", or Follows the guide when you set nothing.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Credits | Whether buyers see the credit under this spot's photos: Default (the line says whether the guide shows credits), Show or Hide. A credit the photo's licence asks for, such as Unsplash and CC BY, shows either way. The (i) beside it says so. |
| Descriptions | Whether buyers see each photo's description (the caption you write on Media) under it: Default, Show or Hide. Hide keeps the descriptions saved, and they still serve as the photos' alt text. |
| Photo shape | How the spot's photos frame at the top of the spot page on a phone, in the app and on the web: Default, Landscape (wider than tall) or Portrait (taller than wide). Cards and the desktop page keep their own frame. |
The three save with the form. Setting the spot to Hide or to a shape changes what buyers see after your next publish, as other changes to a spot do. Once the spot has a photo the phone beside the form shows them, as does Preview. The photos themselves, and whether the spot shows any, stay under Photos and Visibility.
Visibility
| Switch | Off means |
|---|---|
| Show photos | The photos stay saved, but buyers see a compact entry without images. The spot then needs no photo to be ready or to publish. |
| Show properties | The values stay saved, but buyers get none of them, and the spot drops out of the property filters. Required properties do not apply while it is off, see Custom Properties. |
Both are on for a spot that has just come in, and both save with the form.
Archive or delete
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Archive | Takes the spot out of the guide: buyers no longer see it, and the store's spot count leaves it out. Its photos, properties and links stay saved. It applies at once, without the form's save; on a live guide, buyers see the change with your next publish. An archived spot shows only under Archived in the list and never stops a publish. Its stops in itineraries stay, hidden from buyers. |
| Unarchive | On an archived spot, in the same place: puts the spot back into the guide as it was. Also at once. |
| Delete | Removes the spot for good. Delete spot asks first, see below. |
Delete spot asks Delete this spot? first. In the dialog, Delete spot removes the spot with its property values, its place in chapters and collections, its links to routes and to other pins, and its stops in itineraries. Its photos stay in the guide's Media. Keep spot closes the dialog without a change.
Once anyone has bought the guide, its spots cannot be deleted: the studio says so, and Archive takes the spot out instead, because buyers keep what they bought.
Live preview
The phone beside the form (under it on a narrower screen) shows the spot as buyers see it in the app: the cover in its shape, the texts, the property values, the How to get there row once the spot has a pin or something else to plan, and its Links under the rows. It follows the form as you type, before you save, and leaves out what Visibility hides. It shows the photos the way the Media section sets them. Until the spot has a title, the phone reads Spot title.
The phone answers taps as the app does. The heart and the been-there tick switch on and off, the pin opens the Location card with the map apps, share opens your computer's share sheet or copies the spot, and the three dots open the menu with the photo credits. How to get there opens that page with the spot's map apps, routes and places, a route opens its own page, and each own page opens too; Back to photo returns to the spot. Map apps and your links open in a new browser tab. Nothing you tap is saved, and the phone starts on the spot page again when you open another spot.
Live preview, the label above the phone, opens Preview: the spot in the guide, before you save it, in the designs buyers see.
| Control | Options |
|---|---|
| Preview design | Spot page: the spot's page, with more spots of the guide under it on desktop. Card: its card in the grid of the guide's spots. Reader: its card in a chapter's reader, with the cards before and after it. |
| Device | Desktop: the web guide at the width of a desktop window, scaled to fit. Mobile: the guide on a phone. |
In Card and Reader the spot sits in the middle of the view among the guide's other spots with photos, the spots of its own chapter first, and the further a neighbour is, the softer it is drawn. In a guide with too few spots to fill the view, the others keep the guide's order around it and the rest stays empty: with two spots, the other one shows only before or only after it. Nothing in the preview opens: it is a picture of the guide. Screen readers name the frame Desktop preview or Mobile preview.
Saving
The spot form saves only when you say so. Its button sits in the guide bar at the foot of the page, left of Publish, in the place of Preview while the form has something to save:
It reads Save once something changed. Before anything changed, and again once the spot is saved, the place shows Preview instead (see Preview).
Cmd+S or Ctrl+S saves too, while the form is on screen.
The button stays grey while the form holds something it cannot save: no title, a link or coordinates in Location it cannot read, a Google Maps link still being read, or walk minutes or an altitude it cannot take. The field in question says what is wrong; a missing title only keeps the button grey. A save the server refuses, for an empty required property for example, shows its reason in red in the bar.
While it saves, the bar says Saving... for at least 2 seconds, then Your changes are saved. for a moment, and Preview is back beside Publish: the guide's preview in the app, with your saved changes in it. On a live guide, buyers see them once you publish: see Preview and publish.
Some parts of the form act at once and need no save: the photos, the pins you link under Linked, the routes you tick under Getting there and a route you create there, and Archive, Unarchive and Delete spot.
Boxes on other studio pages, like Name and price, save with a button of their own and show the result beside it: Saved, or the reason a save failed (Could not save when no reason came back). Where the studio shows a live address, its copy icon, Copy link, turns into a check, Link copied, for a moment.
Unsaved changes
While the form holds changes you have not saved, Publish waits and the bar says Save your changes before you publish. Switching to another section of the guide in the sidebar keeps the form as it is, and the save button stays in the bar on every section until you save.
All spots, Previous spot and Next spot ask first, in Discard your changes?: Save saves the spot and goes on, Discard changes drops the changes and goes on, Keep editing stays in the form. Save stays grey while the form holds something it cannot save, like a spot without a title; if the server refuses the save, you stay in the form and the bar shows the reason. Leaving the guide's page asks the same: another studio page in the sidebar, or an itinerary, a sales page or a chapter opened in its own editor. Closing or reloading the browser tab asks through the browser. The browser's back button to another page does not ask, so save first.
The example guide
On the read-only example guide every creator sees, the list and each spot's form show the example as it is: the fields are locked, the folds still open, and there is no Add spots. See properties takes the place of Edit properties and opens the example's properties. The AI agent card, the review notices and Archive or delete are not shown.
