The guide
Location and facts
Three parts of the spot form say where a spot is and how to plan a visit: the Location field at the foot of its first box, the Links box under Custom Properties, and the Getting there fold under Advanced options. Buyers read them on the spot's Location card (the location button on the spot page) and on its How to get there page in the guide. The rest of the form is on Spots.
Everything here saves with the form's button in the guide bar, like the rest of the form, except the routes you tick and the routes you create there: those apply at once.
The Location field
Location is the spot's pin, and nothing else: the map apps buyers open are made from it (What buyers see). It is required: a spot without a pin is not ready, shows No pin in the list and stops the guide from being published. Paste a link or coordinates into the field, or set the pin on a map with Pick on map, on the right inside the field. The field shows the pin as its coordinates.
| You paste | What happens |
|---|---|
| A Google Maps link to a place | The pin fills in, and the place's name fills Title while the title is empty. The link stays behind the pin: buyers' Google Maps opens that place. |
| A Google Maps share link (Share on a place, in the Google Maps app) | Finding the pin... shows while Sceniq follows the link; then the pin and the name fill in. |
| Coordinates, like 46.9358, 8.5469 | They become the pin. |
| A link from Apple Maps, OpenStreetMap, swisstopo or SchweizMobil, or a geo: link | The pin fills in when the link carries coordinates. The link stays behind the pin, and buyers get it under that app's name. A link without coordinates stays in the field: set the pin on the map. |
| A link to a Google Maps list | Refused: a whole list comes in through Google Maps list in Add spots, see Import spots. |
| Anything else | Refused, with a line asking for a Google Maps, Apple Maps, OpenStreetMap, swisstopo or SchweizMobil link, or coordinates. |
A paste is read right away; typed text is read when you press Enter or leave the field. The form does not save while the field holds something it refused, or while a share link is still being read.
The pin moves whenever you paste another link or coordinates or set it on the map. To remove it, empty the field: the save takes the pin off the spot, and the spot is not ready again until it has one.
The line under the field
A line shows under the field only while there is something to say:
| It shows | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Finding the pin... | Sceniq is following a share link to its place. |
| A line in red | The field holds something it cannot read. The line says what to paste. |
| No pin in this link. Pick it on the map or paste coordinates. | The link names a place but holds no pin you can use. |
| No pin yet | The spot has no pin. |
Set the pin
Pick on map opens it. "Click the map where the spot is. The guide's other spots show for orientation." The map opens close in on the spot's pin. Without one it shows the guide's other spots, and in a guide without pins the guide's map area or its countries. The other spots are blue pins; this spot's pin is the dark one, named This spot while the spot has no title. Archived spots are not on the map.
Click where the spot is: the pin moves there, and the coordinates show beside Done and in the field (No pin yet before the first click). Clicking another spot's pin does nothing. Done closes the map, and the new pin saves with the form. A pin set on the map has no link behind it: buyers' Google Maps opens the pin itself.
Links
The box under Custom Properties holds the spot's links: any page that helps a visitor, like the official site, a timetable, tickets or a booking page, or a blog post. They are not map links: where the spot is lives in Location alone.
Paste a link into Paste a link at the foot of the box: it is added as a row as soon as it lands. Typed text is added when you press Enter or leave the field. Text that is no link reads "Paste a link that starts with https://." and is not added. A spot takes up to 12 links; at the limit the field gives way to a line saying so.
Each row shows the link's name and its address under it. The name is what buyers read, up to 60 characters: click it to change it. A link you paste names itself:
- a Google Maps share link: the place's name, asked of Google;
- a Google Maps link that spells the place: that name, else Google Maps;
- a known map app or trail site: its name, like Apple Maps, swisstopo, OpenStreetMap, Komoot or AllTrails;
- any other site: its address without www., like visitgreece.gr.
A row whose name you empty gets the same name back when you save. The address opens the page in a new tab, and the X at the end of a row removes the link. The links save with the form.
Links an AI agent added over the Creator API show here too, each under its name; a link that is a channel rather than a page (an app and what to search for in it) shows that instead of an address. Older spots kept their links in the Location field: they show here, and move into the box for good with the spot's next save.
What buyers see
The spot's Location card shows the pin's coordinates with a copy button, then the map apps that open it. The How to get there page shows the same links as buttons. In this order:
- Google Maps: the link in Location when it is a Google Maps link, or else one made from the pin;
- a topographic map for the guide's country, at the pin;
- Apple Maps, at the pin;
- the link in Location when it opens another map app, under that app's name (OpenStreetMap, SchweizMobil, or Map app for a geo: link, which opens the phone's own map app).
A link in Location to Apple Maps takes the place of the Apple Maps link at the pin, and a swisstopo link in a Swiss guide that of the topographic map: they open your link instead.
The spot page itself lists no location among its facts: the map apps open from its Location button, the pin beside the heart and the share button.
Your Links show on the spot page itself, under Links, below How to get there and the spot's own pages: each with its name and its site, and a tap opens the site. A link that is an app and what to search for in it shows that instead.
Getting there
Open Advanced options under the form, then Getting there. Closed, the fold sums up what is set (an access mode, the altitude, the ways to arrive, how many routes) or reads Approach and routes. Buyers see these facts on the spot's How to get there page, which the field tips call the Planning page.
Access, Altitude and Crowds
Three facts for the bar at the top of the How to get there page. The (i) beside each label says how buyers see it.
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Access | How visitors reach the spot, shown as Accessibility. Automatic (the default) or one of: Drive-up, Short walk, Hike, Multi-day trip, By boat, By cable car, By train, By air, Tour only, From the air. |
| Altitude | Meters above sea level, shown as Altitude, in whole meters (decimals are rounded). 0 means sea level; leave it empty when you do not know it. A value that is no number, or out of range, reads in red and the form does not save. |
| Crowds | How busy the spot gets, shown as Crowdedness on a dot meter: Not set, or from 1, quiet to 5, packed. |
What Accessibility shows:
- With Automatic: the grade of the easiest route that leads to the spot, among the routes with a grade. With no route at all, Drive-up when you describe the drive under By car. Otherwise the cell stays empty.
- With a mode: that mode's word. Short walk, Hike and Multi-day trip show the easiest route's grade instead when a graded route leads there.
Ways to arrive
For drive-up or ride-up spots. Spots reached on foot usually carry routes instead. Under that line there is a button for each way not added yet; each adds a block with an X to remove it. A removed block's text is cleared with the next save.
| Block | Fields | Buyers read |
|---|---|---|
| By car | Directions by car, Parking and Walk to spot in minutes | Under By car: the directions, Parking: and your text, Walk to spot: 10 min |
| By train and bus | Route by public transport and Walk from stop in minutes | Under By train + bus: the route, Walk from stop: 5 min |
| By boat | Route by boat | Under By boat: your text |
| Best time | One line, like when to book or come | Under When to go: your text |
| Hours and season | One line, like the months it runs | Under Hours / season: your text |
The walk fields take a number of minutes; anything else reads Walk minutes must be non-negative numbers. and the form does not save.
An AI agent working over the Creator API can describe more ways to arrive: by air, on foot, by bike, whole approaches with their legs, and access rules for some months. The form does not show them, and a save keeps them. Removing the By car or By train and bus block also removes what an agent noted in it, like no access by car.
Routes
"Hikes, walks and drives that lead here." Every route of the guide is listed with its grade and duration. Tick a route to link it to this spot, untick it to unlink it. Ticking applies right away, without the form's save.
To make a route from here, type its name into New route name and press Create (or Enter): the route is made and linked to the spot at once. Its line, stats, places and equipment are edited on Planning. A guide without routes says so here.
Parking, transport, food and stays
The car parks, lifts, places to eat and stays near a spot are helpers and link in the form's Linked box, not here: see Linked. Buyers find them on the spot's page, under Parking, Get around, Eat & drink and Sleep.
Review notes and dates
Two notices can show at the top of a saved spot's form. They are for you: buyers never see them, and the example guide does not show them.
| Notice | What it says |
|---|---|
| Note for your review | A note an AI agent left on the spot over the Creator API, for you to read. The form has no field for it: once you are done with it, Clear note under the notice removes it, at once and without the form's save. |
| Facts due for a new check | The review-by date an agent set for the spot has come: "The hours, prices and access notes of this spot were set to be re-checked by" that date. The day counts in the spot's own time zone. Check the facts, then press Mark as checked under the notice: it records today as the day the facts were checked and ends the review-by date, at once. An agent can set a new one over the Creator API. |
Facts only an agent sets
The Creator API holds more facts for a spot than the form shows: opening hours, fees, closure notices, more points like a parking area or a trailhead, rules and events. Buyers see them on the How to get there page and the Location card. A save in the studio keeps every one of them. Links an agent adds show in the Links box, where you can rename or remove them. How an agent connects is on AI agents and API keys.
The example guide
On the read-only example guide, Location and Getting there show the example's facts, locked. Pick on map is not offered, links cannot be added, renamed or removed, and nothing can be ticked or created under Routes or in Linked.
