Spot screenshots
Spot screenshots is under Marketing in the studio. Choose one or more spots and download images for your video editor. The Screenshot steps indicator tracks three steps: 1. Choose spots, 2. Style and review and 3. Download. The Marketing link above the title returns to the overview.
Screenshots use your saved guide content, including draft changes. They may differ from the version buyers currently see. Save changes in the spot editor before capturing them; making a screenshot does not save, change or publish your guide. See Save, preview and publish.
Choose spots
Choose your Guide first. The selector lists your own map guides, including drafts. Archived guides and the shared example guide are absent. Your newest guide is selected first. Switching guides starts a new selection and resets the screenshot settings.
The Spots list shows the guide's active spots in creation order. Check each spot you want to export. No spots are selected initially, and you must select at least one to continue. Archived spots are absent.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Search spots | Filters the list by spot name or category. Searching does not clear your selection. No matching spots means no spot matches; change or clear the search. |
| Select all | Selects every active spot in this guide. |
| Select all results | Appears while you search. Adds every matching spot to your selection and keeps spots selected outside the search results. |
| Clear selection | Removes every selected spot, including those hidden by the current search. |
The selected count includes spots outside your search results. The Continue button includes that count, for example Continue with 2 spots. It opens the shared styling and review step.
No photo flags a spot with no saved photo. You can still select and export it: with the Photo switch on, the screenshot shows the location placeholder; with Photo off, it omits the image area. Add photos in Spot details if you want a photograph instead.
Style and review
The Selected spots row contains every spot in this export. Click a spot to highlight it and inspect its preview. Highlighting a spot changes only the preview; it does not add or remove spots from the download. The text below the row identifies the spot you are previewing and its position in the selection.
Edit selection returns to the checkbox list. Your view, visibility switches and photo choices stay in place, including for spots you remove and select again. Changing the selected spots clears any previously prepared screenshots, so the next download matches the new selection.
Choose a Photo
The photo selector appears before View when the highlighted spot has more than one saved photo. It lists all that spot's photos, including those hidden in the guide. Choose the photo to use for this spot only. The first photo is used until you choose another, and each spot remembers its own choice while you review other spots or edit the selection.
Photos follow their order in the spot, with captions beside their numbers when present. Captions help identify the choices; they do not appear below the photo in the screenshot. A photo's saved focal point controls its crop.
Choose a View
The Screenshot view selector applies one view to every selected spot:
| Option | What the PNG contains |
|---|---|
| Phone | The first screen of the spot inside a phone frame. The area outside the device is transparent, so you can place it over your footage. This is the initial selection. |
| Spot page | The first screen of the spot without a device frame. It includes the page background, rather than transparency. This is a fixed screen, not the entire scrollable spot page. |
| Spot card | A compact card with the spot's photo, title and card details, with transparency around it. A visible photo credit appears below the card. |
The phone and page views use the guide's photo shape unless the spot has its own shape. They show the opening screen only; the preview controls do not scroll the spot or open other sections. Content below that fixed screen is outside the PNG, even when its switch is on. Hiding content above it can bring it into view. The card keeps a square photo.
Customize screenshots
The customization section starts closed. Open Customize screenshots to see the Visible content, Properties and Page controls switches. Close it again to hide those controls; your choices remain applied. Photo and View stay outside this section.
Visible content
Each switch applies to every selected spot and changes the highlighted preview immediately. It does not change saved spots, guide settings, photos or stored credits. Your choices stay in place while you highlight other spots, change photos or views, or edit the selection in this guide. They reset when you switch guides or leave the page.
| Switch | What it shows or hides |
|---|---|
| Photo | The photo area, including the location placeholder when no photo is available. Switching it off also removes photo credits from the images. |
| Photo credits | Each selected photo's saved credit. This switch appears when at least one selected spot has a photo with a saved credit. You can show or hide credits for this export, including credits hidden in the guide. |
| Categories | The category names above the title, in their saved order. Appears when any selected spot has categories. |
| Title | The spot's name. |
| Short description | The text directly below the title. Appears on Phone and Spot page when any selected spot has a short description. |
| Long description | The body text after the short description. Appears on Phone and Spot page when any selected spot has a long description. |
| Links | The creator's Links block below the planning and own-page rows, including older links saved on the spot. Appears on Phone and Spot page when any selected spot has links. It is separate from the Location button below. |
| How to get there | The row leading to the spot's planning content. Appears on Phone and Spot page when any selected spot has planning content, including linked routes or places. |
All switches start on for the batch, including Photo, Photo credits and custom properties. This includes saved photos, credits and properties hidden in the guide, without changing their visibility for buyers. Switches appear for content found across the selected spots; a spot without that content has nothing to show for that switch. See Spot details and Photos and credits.
Properties
Each custom property available in the selected view has its own switch, labelled with the property's name. Switch a fact off to remove its label and value from every screenshot. The switches include properties with a value in any selected spot, even when hidden in the guide. Properties with no value in any selected spot, and archived properties, are absent.
On Phone and Spot page, an Own page property with content also has a switch. It shows or hides the row named after that property, not the full text of its page. On Spot card, only the property used for the card's detail line is offered. Hiding it removes that line without choosing a replacement property.
These switches keep every saved value. To edit the fields themselves, open Properties or the spot editor.
Page controls
Phone and Spot page let you show or hide each control separately. These are parts of the screenshot; they do not perform actions inside the preview.
| Switch | What it shows or hides |
|---|---|
| Back button | The arrow and Back control above the spot. |
| Guide navigation | The navigation bar at the foot of the screen. |
| Save button | The heart in the action row. |
| Visited button | The checkmark in the action row. |
| Location button | The location action, when the spot has a pin or map link. Maps and coordinates live in this action, rather than in the spot's facts. Hiding it does not hide the creator's Links block. |
| Share button | The sharing action. |
| More button | The menu action. |
Spot card has no page controls. On Phone and Spot page, controls below the visible first screen remain outside the PNG until enough content above them is hidden.
Preview
The Screenshot preview changes when you highlight another selected spot, choose its photo, change the shared view or change a switch. Check each spot before exporting; text length, photo shape and available content can make the same settings look different across spots. Transparent background appears for Phone and Spot card; the checkerboard behind them shows where your footage will be visible and is absent from the downloaded PNG. Full background appears for Spot page.
Download
With one selected spot, Download PNG creates one PNG. With several spots, the button includes the count, for example Download 2 screenshots, and downloads one ZIP containing a separate PNG for each spot. Unzip it before importing the images into your video editor.
Each image uses its spot's photo choice and the shared view and visibility switches, at 3 times its base resolution regardless of the preview's displayed size. PNG filenames include the guide, spot and view; spots with matching names receive distinct filenames. The ZIP filename includes the guide and view. Your browser downloads the files locally; they are not added to your guide's Media or posted anywhere.
The export creates screenshots one at a time. The Screenshot export progress bar tracks completed images. Text above it shows the number being created, with the spot name below, then Preparing download... while preparing the file. Selection, photo and styling controls are disabled during export. A success message tells you to find the PNG or ZIP in your downloads.
Stop, continue and retry
Stop export stops the current export and keeps completed screenshots on this page. Use the main download button to continue with the remaining spots. Download ready screenshots downloads the completed files without waiting for the others; with a multi-spot selection this is a ZIP even if only one screenshot is ready.
If a spot fails, the export continues with the others. Its preview tile reads Export failed, and the list under the download controls names the spot and explains the problem. Completed spots read Ready. Retry failed tries only the failed spots and keeps completed screenshots. When every selected screenshot is ready, the complete download starts automatically. You can also use Download ready screenshots to download the successful ones while a problem remains.
If an error asks you to choose another photo, highlight that spot and change its photo. Changing photos, the shared view, a visibility switch or the selected spots clears prepared screenshots and previous messages; the next export recreates them with your new settings. Saved guide content changing also invalidates prepared screenshots. Merely highlighting a different preview keeps completed files. Leaving the page clears this temporary export progress.
Loading and empty states
- Loading screenshots shows placeholders while the guide, spots and photos load. Wait for the preview before downloading.
- Start with a guide means you have no active guide available. Your Guides returns to your guides, where you can create one and add a spot.
- Add a spot first means the selected guide has no active spots. Open spots opens that guide's Spots page.
- If the guide cannot load, the studio shows an error with the available recovery actions. Use its reload or account action, then return to this page.
