Onboarding
Onboarding takes you from a new account to a guide on sale. It is one page for the whole studio, and the first row of the sidebar on every page, inside your guides too. Every step ticks itself from what you have done; you never tick a step by hand.
In the sidebar
Onboarding leads the sidebar, above Your Guides. Beside it a small ring fills as steps get done, as far as the bar on the page. Once every step is done, a tick takes the ring's place, and the row stays.
Until your first guide is live, the studio opens on Onboarding: signing in, or opening the studio at its address, brings you here, and Your Guides is one click away in the sidebar. From your first publish on, the studio opens on Your Guides. A studio page you open directly, such as a bookmark to Sales, stays where it is.
The parts
The page starts with four parts, each a name over a bar: Setup, Build, Sell and More. A part's bar fills with its share of done steps, and a part that is complete gets a tick before its name. Screen readers hear each part with how many of its steps are done.
Under the parts, the box shows the steps of one part: the part with the step up next, or the part you click. When the last step of a part gets done, the part ticks and the next part opens.
| Part | Its steps |
|---|---|
| Setup | Complete your profile, Create a guide |
| Build | Add spots, Custom properties, Preview, Collections and chapters |
| Sell | Sales page, Publish, Marketing |
| More | Set up payouts, Request a listing |
The steps
The first step that is not done is up next. In every part, one step opens out with a line on what to do, its button, and on a wide screen a small scene with Pip, the Sceniq pin:
- In the part with the step up next, that step, tinted blue, with Up next above its name and a blue button.
- In another part, its first open step, with a white button. A step that needs a guide while you have none says to create a guide first, and its button is New guide.
- In a part that is done, its first step, ticked, with its button to go back to its page.
Every other row shows a circle, ticked once the step is done, and the step's name. Click a row and it unfolds in place, with its line, its button and its scene, while the step that was open folds back into a row; the click does not leave the page. Only the button of the open step leads to the page where the work happens. Clicking another part starts that part again on its default open step. You can do the steps in any order; up next is always the first open one. Screen readers hear (done) or (open) after a step's name, and each row announces whether it is open.
| Step | Done when | Its button |
|---|---|---|
| Complete your profile | Your creator profile has a photo and at least one social account. | Open Profile opens your Profile. |
| Create a guide | You have made a guide. An archived one counts too. | New guide opens the dialog that creates one (see New guide). Once done, the button of the open step is Go to Your Guides, the list of all your guides. |
| Add spots | A guide has a spot that is not archived. | Open Spots opens Spots. |
| Custom properties | You changed a guide's properties in any way (added, edited, archived or moved one), or a guide has been live. Spots do not tick it, and neither do a new guide's starter properties alone. | Open Properties opens Properties. |
| Preview | You opened the guide in the app, or a guide has been live. | Open Preview opens the guide on Spots with the Preview dialog: the code that opens the guide on your phone (see Preview). |
| Collections and chapters | A guide has a chapter or a collection. | Open Collections opens Collections. |
| Sales page | A guide's Store page, its main sales page, is published. | Open Sales page opens the builder of that page, or, while the guide has no sales page, its Sales pages list with Create sales page open (see Sales pages). |
| Publish | A guide went live. An archived guide that was live once counts. | Open Publish opens the guide on Spots with the Publish dialog, which lists anything that still stops the publish. |
| Marketing | Someone on your team opened Marketing, on any device. | Open Marketing opens Marketing. |
| Set up payouts | You have finished setting up your payout account. | Open Payouts opens Payouts. |
| Request a listing | One of your guides is waiting for store review, or has been approved for the store. | Open Sceniq Store opens the Sceniq Store section of the guide. |
The price has no step of its own: a guide cannot go live without one, so Publish asks for it, with a button that takes you to the price on Name and price.
The Preview step checks when the page loads and again each time you come back to the studio's browser tab: scan the code, open the guide on your phone, return to the studio, and the step ticks.
Which guide
A step of Build or Sell is done once any of your guides has done it: a sales page published on one guide ticks Sales page, whichever guide is newer, and a guide that is live ticks Publish. With one guide (archived ones aside), the buttons open that guide. With more than one, the step's button opens a short list of your guides, newest first: pick one and its page opens at that step. The Preview step checks the preview of your newest guide that is live, or else your newest guide that is not archived; a guide that has been live counts as previewed. Request a listing ticks when any guide waits for store review or is approved. Inside a guide, its own steps still count that guide alone.
Until you have a guide the steps wait: their names are faint, and unfolding one shows New guide as its button.
Steps that get done, and undone
A step done since this browser last showed the page pops its tick, and its part's bar fills from where it stood. A part completed that way pops its tick too. A step that gets done while the page is open does the same.
The steps are worked out afresh from your account every time, so a done step can open again: for example when you save your profile with every social account removed, when your only published Store page goes offline, or when Sceniq turns down a store request (only a request that is waiting for review or approved counts).
When everything is done
Once all eleven steps are done, every bar is full and the box says that you're all set, that everything your guide needs to sell is in place, with Pip planting a flag on a summit on a wide screen. The parts stay: click one to look back at its steps. The sidebar row keeps its tick.
Where a guide opens
A guide opens on the page of its next step until it has been live:
- Spots for a new guide, and New guide opens every new guide there. It opens there again while the preview is next, since Preview sits in the guide bar at the foot of the page.
- Properties once the guide has spots and its properties are next.
- Collections, then Sales pages, when those are next.
- Name and price when only the publish is left and the guide has no price yet.
From its first publish on, a guide opens on Spots, where the daily work is. A guide's address that names a section always opens that section.
Pip
The scene beside the step up next goes round its three pictures twice, then rests on the first. It stops while it is off screen or the browser tab is in the background. With reduced motion turned on in your system it is a still picture.
